SENIOR HIGH SUNDAY
SCHOOL
THE PRODIGAL GOD
Dear Senior High School
Student,
We plan to offer a class
for Senior High School students during the Winter Quarter (December
through February) that will study the book by Timothy Keller, The
Prodigal God (2008).
This book is a study of
Jesus' parable of the prodigal son(s) and the forgiving father in Luke
15. The author's unique title, The Prodigal God, reflects his
view that the parable illustrates the over-abundant generosity and
graciousness of God to those who have wandered from Him.
Timothy Keller is a pastor
in New York City who ministers to a large, multi-ethnic congregation.
He is best known for his defense of the Christian faith in his book,
The Reason for God. In The Prodigal God, Keller
demonstrates that the Christian message of grace is for both the
immoral and moral people of this world. Both kinds of people are in
need of God's grace and His friendship and God extends his kindness to
both groups of people.
You will receive your own
copy of this book from the church. We will be reading and reflecting
on the book in class. We hope that you will study the message of this
book outside of class as well. We think this is a book that gets at
the heart of the Christian message so that it is a great book for
believers and for non-believers. It is also an excellent book for new
believers and for old (mature) believers.
As usual the class will
begin the second Sunday of December after our combined missionary
Sunday School on the first Sunday of December.
We hope you will commit to
attending this class.
With warm regards,
Ken Shannon, for the
elders.
